Right to communicate
The prison administration has to ensure that you are given the opportunity to communicate with your family, friends, lawyer, doctor and other persons. Communication with the outside world includes sending letters, making calls and having people visit you.
Your communication with persons outside the prison may only be restricted for security reasons or as a result of disciplinary punishment (i.e. if you are placed to punishment cell to serve a disciplinary penalty you do not have a right to short-term or long-term visits). Whenever the prison administration limits your freedom to write or call people outside the prison or to meet with your family, there must be valid reasons for such limitations.
