Information about the adoption of a child is confidential. The objective of secrecy is to guarantee the protection of the private life of children, parents and adoptive parents, prevent undesired interference and discrimination on the basis of origin or on any other basis.
Data on adoption must be used pursuant to the principle of purposefulness provided for in the Personal Data Protection Act ensuring that the information on adoption can be accessed only by officials for whom it is necessary in order to perform their official duties.
Right to know your origins
A minor adopted child with the consent of the adoptive parent, or an adopted child who has become an adult has the right to obtain information from the Social Insurance Board concerning the fact of adoption. This right is protected by the child’s right to a private and family life.
What human rights violation may there be?
If anyone has unlawfully disseminated information about the adoption, this may violate the right to a private and family life for both the child and his/her parents.
