Notification about detention

Will anyone know that you have been detained?

When you are detained, you have the right to ask the police to inform your relatives, education institution and/or employer about your detention.

If you are a foreigner, you have the right to ask the police to inform the embassy or consulate of your country about your detention.

It is important to notify your relatives (or the embassy of your country), to make sure that they know about your whereabouts, that you are being held by the state authorities and, if necessary, assist you from outside.  They may also help you to find better legal aid to challenge your detention or help in preparing your case.
