Who should introduce you to your rights and duties and when?
It is important that you know your rights and duties when you are taken into custody and brought to the investigation prison. In Estonia a suspect who is taken into custody shall be immediately submitted a written declaration of rights concerning his or her rights in the criminal proceedings. A suspect shall have the right to keep the declaration in his or her possession during the time of keeping in custody. If the suspect is not proficient in the Estonian language, he or she shall be provided with the declaration of rights in his or her mother tongue or in a language in which he or she is proficient.
You can also read about your rights and duties when taken into custody in the Code of Criminal Procedure and when keeping in custody in the Imprisonment Act.
