What are your obligations as a volunteer?
Since there is no specific law on volunteering in Estonia, your obligations largely depend on the place you are volunteering in. Some laws specify certain requirements for volunteers, such as undergoing a medical examination or relevant training. In general, it can be said that as a volunteer, you have the obligation:
- to carry out the tasks entrusted to you by yourself
- to comply with the instructions of the organiser of the volunteer service whilst performing the work
- to be mindful of the property and financial resources transferred for your disposal
- to inform the organiser without delay of any difficulties which have or may have a negative impact on the course of the volunteer service, or of threats of the occurrence of losses or losses already incurred
- not to disclose the information obtained during the course of your voluntary work which the organiser has indicated in writing as being confidential
- upon request of the organiser, to present a certificate regarding a (non-)criminal record
